I was talking with a dear friend the other day who had understood a scripture incorrectly. He thought that putting others above yourself meant that you were only to pray for others and not for yourself. I assured him that God wanted to hear our prayers for ourselves. With everything, in prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
My prayers are filled with requests and with praise. The more I started to see God in everything, the more I realized how much I have to be thankful for. I thank Him for the beauty of nature around me. I thank Him for a home with food and heat. I thank Him for choosing me to be His daughter and saving me from hell.
Prayer isn’t just about asking for others. It’s also not just presenting a list of things we want. Prayer is designed to create a relationship. Sharing our hearts with our Father draws us closer to Him. Recognizing Him in our lives with both thanksgiving and petition connects us with Him.
Jesus’s love conquered death for those who call upon God’s name and follow Him. We have been freed from a debt that we could never repay. Jesus paid that debt on the cross and took our sins upon Himself. Whether or not we receive any other blessing, that alone should fill our hearts with praise!
Lord, thank you that you saved a wretch life me!
