When the season changes to fall, you can certainly tell. The farmers are harvesting their fields. Hunting season in South Dakota is in full swing. There is an array of colors from the trees changing. It is time to reap what was sown.
Fall is my favorite time of the year. In the spring, we spend time planting and waiting. In the summer, we watch everything grow. But, in the fall, the full bounty is revealed, and we are able to enjoy all of what we have planted.
Paul tells us that we will also reap a reward by doing good. It may not pay immediate benefits, but it will grow into a bountiful harvest. However, the reason for doing good isn’t the future rewards, all though they are promised. Doing good is a reflection of our heavenly Father. It should bring us joy to be like Him.
In a world that seems to shun good, do it anyway. Even when our good deeds go unnoticed or, worse yet, are punished, do them anyway. The joy that awaits is unfathomable. We do good, not because people deserve it. We do good to be like our Father. We do good to be obedient to His command.
It is for the pleasure of our Father that draws us to do good.
