When Jesus declared to a group that they never fed Him or clothed Him, they were astonished. When had they seen Jesus in need? They would have never walked past Jesus. But they did walk past people who were in need. They couldn’t be bothered by those who could not help them.
A second group was praised for helping Jesus. They, too, were astonished because they had not seen Jesus hungry or naked. But they had seen the need of others and offered help. They received high praise because they noticed the need around them.
How different would we act if we saw Jesus in every person? We would be kinder and more willing to help our fellow man. We would make time for Jesus if He asked for help. Man is made in the image of God, and God places people in our path for a reason.
Our God is the God of the marginalized and the poor. He places great importance on everyone. He also holds His followers accountable to follow Christ’s example. Jesus poured out His love for us on the cross while we were still sinners. He calls us to demonstrate that love in tangible ways for others.
How would you be willing to help Jesus?
