I love the plant that grows by my front door. It is called pig squeak because when you rub the leaves together, they squeak like a pig. It is always green. When the snow melts in the spring, the plant is already green and begins to grow again.
After one winter, I thought I was going to lose the plant. I had to cut much of the dead parts off, but it came back even stronger the next year. The fact that it is always green, even through the tough times, makes me smile. I love the resilience and it gives me hope.
God doesn’t remove the drought or winter. There are still times of distress that we encounter. Our growth is determined by where we put down our roots. We can become deeply rooted in God through prayer and reading His word. Our we can have shallow roots of accepting Christ but living our own lives.
Those who seek God in a deeper level today are those whose roots will remain watered. When we lean into God and trust Him, we can thrive in the harshest of seasons. We can draw strength from His presence and be resilient. It is here that we can produce much fruit.
Grow deeper roots by spending time with God today.
