I received a call from the doctor’s office that they needed additional imaging after my mammogram. I was scheduled the following week. My mind, of course, went to everything that could happen. What would I do if I had cancer? How would I be able to take care of my family if I were sick? It became a game of imaging the worst.
As my mind spiraled, I needed to pull myself together. I needed God. I prayed for Him to control my thoughts and to help me with whatever the results of the next test would be. He calmed my heart and assured me that He would be with me through anything. The results revealed dense tissue, not cancer. Even if it had been cancer, He was here to walk me through it.
God commands us not to fear throughout the Bible, not because there is no danger but because He is in control. He can take our fear, pain and suffering and uses it to grow us closer to Himself. He walks us through a path that He knows will lead to Himself. We are never alone.
The devil will use our pain and suffering to try to drive us away from God. He whispers that we are not loved, not worthy, not enough. It is when we have nowhere else to turn to that we can either turn to God or become embittered. The only way to peace is to turn everything over to God. Trust that He goes before us, and He will guide through even the bumpiest parts of our journey.
