Flat on My Back

When I broke my leg, I was laid up on bed for quite a while. One lady from church had told me how excited she was for the recovery time, because I could spend so much time with the Lord. It was a time of rest for my body and it forced me to wait upon the Lord.

However, during that time I also had bouts of depression. I felt like a failure. Like I was worthless. I mourned my productivity. In a world that measures success on how much you can accomplish, I felt like a failure. Sometimes waiting can make us feel that way.

God does not measure our success in the amount of things that we do. He measures success by how closely we walk with Him. He longs for our hearts, not for our sacrifices. As our abilities change, He still loves us. He treasures us regardless of our physical state.

God may restore us physically here on earth, or it may be when we run into His arms. However it plays out, the wait is part of the plan. It is a time to draw near to the Creator, and spend time with Him. There will be hard days when the promises of Scripture will be our sanctuary where we renew our strength.

Never mistake the wait for for being forgotten.
