Recognize the Gifts

One thing that my mother never instilled in me was the importance of writing thank you notes. It never became a habit and I overlooked the importance of it. My aunt, who lives in a different state, had made a baby blanket for my first child. It was beautiful. I loved it.

She had mailed it to me. I never sent a thank you. She reached out to my mom months after I had received it to inquire if I ever got it. This was before Facebook and when long distance phone calls cost money. But truthfully, I just didn’t think about it. I received it and never said thank you.

God loves it when His children sing praises to Him and thank Him for all that they have. So often we receive blessings from God and we never stop to thank Him. We just receive it. What if we truly took the time to say a prayer of thanksgiving? It would be our hearts that would change.

A grateful heart becomes a trusting heart. A heart that acknowledges all that has been given to us. Strength and protection come from such a trusting heart. It is in recognizing Whom we serve that we see our worth and sing praises to God.
