Righteousness is doing the right thing. Justice is enforcing the right thing. But, who decides what is right? Our government creates laws. Our law enforcement carry out enforcing those laws. But, not all laws are righteous. And; some righteous things are not lawful.
So, we take on the role of judge. We want to measure people against our standards but our standards are too low. We have a “feeling” of what is right and wrong. We stand up against evil but we fail to recognize the evil within ourselves.
God designed governments and He has tasked them with maintaining order and justice. However, as man is fallible, so are the laws and enforcement that comes from the hearts of men.
Jesus was the only righteous man that ever lived. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. The standard that all will be judged against is perfection – Jesus. What sort creatures we are when we fail to recognize the weight of our sin? We fail to see how wretched we truly are.
Our only hope is in Jesus, our Savior.
