I went on a missions trip to West Virginia. We had picked white water rafting as an activity. We had all of the instructions and started down the river. At one point, I lost my paddle and reached backwards to grab it. Well, the momentum backwards with a drop of the boat flipped me into the water.
My shoe had come off and I thought for a second about going deeper to grab it. Then, I came to my senses. I swam up, not down. The guide reached down and pulled me into the raft. I was definitely in trouble but I was not afraid. I had a guide, a life jacket, and instructions on what to do.
So many times, people are swept away by their circumstances. They are overwhelmed and spiral downward chasing something they think they need. They end up in real danger because they don’t realize they need to swim up not down.
Knowing God and trusting Him doesn’t just happen when things go wrong. It is the times when we are not overwhelmed or sinking that we need to prepare our hearts. The Bible gives us instruction, the Holy Spirit is our guide and Jesus is our life jacket. We need to be prepare to handle what will come.
Spend time with God today so that you can trust Him when trouble comes.
