Hurry Up and Wait

I was talking with a friend about dating. As we talked, I asked her if she had prayed about dating and what she felt God was saying to her. She told me she didn’t pray because she didn’t want God to say no. It takes courage to wait.

She isn’t the only one. Many times in my life I have made choices and ran ahead of God. I wanted certain things and didn’t bother to pray over them. I just did them. If things weren’t moving as fast as I wanted, I would get discouraged or, worse, angry.

Be strong and courageous is a phrase used several times in the Bible. It is usually used to encourage people to take action. But, here, the Psalmist is using it to tell us to wait. Strength is sometimes found in our restraint rather than our action.

But we should be active in prayer while we wait. God’s reassurance and peace will fill our hearts as we come to Him with our desires and dreams. His wait is for our good even when it doesn’t feel like it now. God is always working all things for our good.

What is God calling you to wait on?
