Keeping Versus Making

Keeping the peace and making peace are two very different things. When we keep the peace, we avoid addressing things that are bothering us. We give in so that there is peace. The issue is, there can be bitterness that develops when we give in.

Making peace is when we seek a resolution to the problem. We don’t just step aside and give up what we want. We have an open dialog about our feelings and desires and work through everyone’s opinions to find a solution. That is when true peace can happen.

Jesus is a peacemaker. When He walked the earth, He would use parables to help people understand their actions without open accusation. He approached issues gently but in truth. He didn’t shy away from wrongdoing. He stood up to it.

Today, Jesus is still our answer to peace. When we accept Him, we are endowed with the Holy Spirit. Jesus brings peace to our hearts in all circumstances. This allows us to stay calm and stand firm when addressing conflict. It allows us to work towards unity and reconciliation.

Jesus wants us to make peace not just keep it.
