I have done a lot of justifying in my time. I am in a hurry. I deserve that piece of cake. I had a hard day and can use a drink to unwind. I am really tired and I will go to church next week. The list of excuses are endless. My flesh really likes what it likes.
I can easily place my desires over what God is calling me to do. I am guessing I am not the only one. That prompting that we need to do something is met with the “What about me?” thought. Why should I give up anything. My happiness is what’s important. Or, it’s just too hard.
When we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit lives within us. He brings us the power that raised Christ from the dead. That power can overcome our excuses. It can break strongholds and destroy idols, if we walk with the Spirit.
Paul had said that even he did the things he did not want to do and not the things he should. So, when we fail, we need to lean into grace. Our failure does not remove God’s love. It is the recognition that we have sinned against God that brings us closer to Him. Then, we brush ourselves off and walk with the Spirit again.
The Holy Spirit helps us be able to walk with Him.
