When I had a problem, I would tend to hide it and try to figure it out on my own. Generally, I didn’t share my issues with other people or with God. It caused shame and what would people think of me. Plus, I was smart enough to figure it out.
As I have begun to trust more and more in God, I run to Him when I have sinned. I ask for His forgiveness and His help. I have also set up an accountability partner that helps me keep my eyes on God and prays with me.
I was never smart enough to figure out how to be perfect. In fact, hiding our sin only amplifies it and our distance from others and God. When we carry burdens, they weigh us down and hold us hostage. God doesn’t want to punish us. He wants to free us from our burdens. He wants to remove the shame but we still have to face consequences.
God doesn’t need us to be perfect in order to love us. He knows we cannot. What He wants is for us to come to Him with our mess and lay it at His feet. He will carry us through and start to change our heart. He will set us free.
