When I was visiting with my aunt Eddye, we were talking about end of life. She admitted that she was scared that she hadn’t done enough or been good enough to go to heaven. The question is a scary one.
As we talked, I brought up this verse. I asked her if Jesus was Lord of her life. She said yes. Then I asked her if she believed He had been raised from the dead and she said yes. That is the criteria to receive God’s grace. That is how a person is saved. There is no doubt after that.
God knows we are weak and frail creatures. We are also stubborn and sinful. He loves us anyway. The beautiful thing about salvation is that God does the work. We have to accept Jesus’s sacrifice and follow Him. Although, we will not do it perfectly, our salvation is no in jeopardy.
By the power of the Holy Spirit, we grow more and more like Jesus. As we walk in the God deeds that God prepared in advance for us, we do good out of gratitude not as a requirement for salvation. It is a free gift.
Don’t place an additional price on a debt that has already been paid.
