The thing I love about spring are some plants produce right away. I have chives, asparagus and rhubarb that sprout up even while the nights are still chilly. Our favorite spring treat is rhubarb crisp made from delicious, very sour stalks. It just takes a little sugar.
To harvest rhubarb, you need to get to the base of the stalk and pull. Larger stalks can take quite an effort. Then, cut off the large, green leaves and dispose if them because they are poisonous. Wash and chop the stalks and you are ready to make something delicious.
There is a harvest coming talked about in Matthew. It is a harvest of souls. We only have this lifetime to make the decision to follow Jesus. At the second coming of Christ, there will be no more time. Each person will be “harvested” and brought before the judgment seat of God.
God will separate the wheat from the weeds. The weeds are burned by the wheat is gathered into God’s presence. Or, the stalks from the leaves in my rhubarb example. Workers are needed to increase the harvest. People need to know that there are consequences to sin and there is a Savior.
Who, in your life, needs to know Jesus?
