When my one son was in 3rd grade, he would try to mimic other people’s steps. He would match their gait and their stride. Quite an odd thing to do, but he obsessed over it for a period of time. I don’t think anyone noticed but him.
What if we focused on our steps with Jesus? Are we walking with similar gait and stride? Looking over our footprints, can we see our small steps falling in line with His? Or, are we running around Him in circles? Or worse, have we walked the other way?
The fruit of the Spirit is what our hearts long for – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self- control. But, in order to obtain these gifts, we have to pay attention to our steps. We have to study how Jesus walked and follow as closely as we can.
What seems impossible on our own is made possible with the help of the Holy Spirit. He is our teacher and guide. We start out stumbling and falling down. But, as we grow, our steps can begin to mimic the steps that Jesus showed us. We become more and more like Him.
Walk by faith and trust the Spirit to help you.
