Most people have met or know a person who is very critical. They always know what is best. If you aren’t doing it their way, you are wrong. Everything you do is scrutinized and found wanting. People like these are usually avoided when possible. Who wants to be told that they are never right?
This is the view some have of God. They feel He is critical of everything that they do. He is just waiting to catch them doing wrong so that He can add to their pain and punishment. Who would want to serve a god like that?
God is not hypercritical. He did not send His son to earth to condemn it. Man was already on the path to hell. Jesus came to save people from hell. He already knows that we are sinful creatures. He loves us anyway.
Jesus came so that we may know how good God is. Yes, we need to accept His sacrifice to pay for our sins but it is a price that has already been paid in full. The voice of our Savior reminds us that we are loved; we are enough; and that there is no sin that His love cannot redeem.
Taste and see that the Lord is good.
