What Spirit Do You Have? Fear or Faith?

I remember one night riding the bus home from an away basketball game. I was in seventh grade. The kids, seventh grade through high school, were singing different songs. No words or music to sing along to, just the title and start singing.

Someone suggested Joy to the World and I started singing the Christmas carol. Everyone else started with, Jeremiah was a bullfrog. Immediately, all eyes turned to me and laughter ensued. Crushed, I stopped singing any song. I was afraid of that feeling happening again.

When we know who we belong to and that we are loved unconditionally, we can laugh at our mistakes. We are secure in who we are. When we accept Christ we are adopted into His family. The Holy Spirit indwells in use and gives us His power. He drives out fear and replaces it with love.

Through His strength, we have the surpassing ability to love others, to see them as God sees them. And, never think that it’s too hard to live for God. The Spirit gives us the power of self-control. Habits and addictions can be overcome, not by our own ability, but through His power.

With God on our side, we need not fear the fiercest storm or even a little ridicule.
