I have had the privilege of visiting the American National Cemetery in Normandy, France. At the time, my son was a Marine. The somberness of it all was overwhelming. France gave this land a a tribute to the great loss of lives suffered by our country for their freedom.
I had to be alone for awhile so that I could process the flood of emotions I felt. The young men here were the same age as my son. They faced overwhelming odds and, even though the battle was won, the cost was astounding. A sea of white crosses that represent young men that never made it home.
Our time in this earth is short. Everyone will face death. For some, they fear it and work hard to elude it. For some, they run into it for a cause bigger than themselves. But, some long for it because absent from the body means present with the Lord. Oh, that everyone had such assurance. But, alas, not all who hear will accept Christ.
Jesus came to lay down His life for everyone. But, they must accept Him as their Savior. There is only one life and then eternity. The cost for our salvation is astounding. In one man, the wrath of God was laid. Crushing, suffocating, painful sin paid for by the One who knew no sin.
Give your life to Christ as a tribute for the freedom gained from such a remarkable cost.
