We are Righteous

In the Old Testament, there was the Mosiac law that consisted of sacrifices. There were sacrifices for sin, for thanksgiving, for impurity. When I had first read about them, all I could think is that the temple must have smelled terrible with the slaughtering of all of the animals.

The amount of sacrifices also seemed like a lot. How could one person give that many animals for their sins? Daily sacrifices were made by the priests for the people. The people brought individual sacrifices but not daily sacrifices. Oh, and the animal had to be without blemish. The best of the best.

God’s plan was always to send Jesus to be a sacrifice for all. He knew that the animal sacrifices for sin could not permanently cover our sins. It was a foreshadowing of what was to come. It was all pointing to Jesus and His amazing love for us.

The smell of death had to be awful at Golgatha. So much death. And yet, Jesus willing went for us. God needed the unblemished sacrifice that was perfectly sinless. He needed the best of the best to be sacrificed once for all sin.

For those that accept Jesus, we put on His righteousness before God.
